MusicBrainz Flickr machine tags

Sander van Zoest and Dan Brickley have been prodding me to officially post about Flickr Machine tags — using Flickr machine tags you can now tag your photos on Flickr to refer to specific MusicBrainz entities. This is how to create MusicBrainz machine tags on Flickr:

  • musicbrainz:artist=<MBID>
  • musicbrainz:release=<MBID>
  • musicbrainz:track=<MBID>
  • musicbrainz:label=<MBID>

    Will Flickr tagged photos appear on artist’s (e.g.) MB page? (Like Last.fm’s event machinetag.)

    Not initially, but we plan to support that in an upcoming release.

    I’m also using this system for one of my computer science projects – but the work may be continued if it takes off – I’ll keep you posted when it’s finished (which has to be in a week, stupid deadlines ;) )

    Good news this is.

    Currently nearly 1 million photos have a machine tag with the last.fm event ID. Is it possible to run a script using the last.fm API to add the MusicBrainz artistIDs as a machine tag to those photos? I think last.fm has resolved their artists to MusicBrainz.

    I have been tagging Delicious with MusicBrainz artist identifiers, but I shall change them to the new standard way:

    I’ve created a flickr machine tag app you may find handy. It allows you to visualize a user’s recently machine tagged photos as a tree organized by machine tags. Here’s one of someone who actively machine tags musicbrainz photos: http://tagaholic.me/apps/flickr.html?user_id=33047461@N05
